Šporar Shines as Slovan Bratislava Faces Internal Tension

Slovan Bratislava secured a 2-0 victory over Podbrezová on Sunday, with both goals scored by Andraž Šporar, further solidifying his importance to the team. However, the win was overshadowed by growing tension surrounding head coach Vladimír Weiss and discontent from some within the club.

Šporar’s Dominant Form

Šporar has quickly turn into a key player for Slovan Bratislava since his return. He has scored eleven goals in eleven matches, prompting high praise from coach Weiss. “He is an irreplaceable player, the biggest reinforcement. An elite player. He is the first to come to training, the last to leave,” Weiss stated. Weiss believes Šporar is a strong contender for the league’s top scorer title, noting his exceptional goal-scoring ability and dedication.

“I believe he will be the best scorer. He gives everything to football. What he kicks is a goal. He has an incredible feeling for the ball in the penalty area, today he scored two goals from two chances,” Weiss added.

Growing Concerns for Coach Weiss

Despite the team’s success, Weiss is facing increasing criticism from fans, with some calling for his departure during the match against Podbrezová. He acknowledged the pressure, stating, “I can bear enough, but we’ll see how long, what and how. When you’re in the position of a Slav, you have to reckon with such things.”

Weiss as well revealed that the discontent extends beyond the fans, with individuals within the club actively working against him. “There are also people in the club who have been against me since the first day of my arrival. I’m not talking about the owners or the Ivanovs,” he said, adding that he is focused on leading the team to the championship.

Slovan Bratislava currently leads the title group with 52 points, six points ahead of Žilina and Dunajská Streda. The team will use the international break to rest and prepare for upcoming matches.
