The government of Santa Fe, Argentina, is nearing the completion of a new wastewater treatment facility in the town of Vila, located in the Castellanos department. The project integrates a 42-panel photovoltaic system to power pumping and purification equipment, reducing reliance on the conventional electrical grid and lowering operational costs. This infrastructure, which includes over 15 kilometers of sewage networks, is designed to serve more than 1,500 inhabitants.

The facility in Vila utilizes a compact activated sludge treatment system capable of processing up to 215 cubic meters of effluent per day. According to the provincial administration, the integration of solar energy is a primary feature of the plant’s design, allowing for more sustainable operations.
Beyond the solar installation, the project encompasses extensive public works to modernize local sanitation, including:
