Amor Rodríguez, before his confirmation in Las Ventas on the day of La Paloma: "We forget about the preparation of the mind when it is the most important thing"

Amor Rodríguez took the alternative in 2019, in Torrejón de Ardoz with Miguel Ángel Perera as godfather and with Ginés Marín as a witness. Last season his time in the Chenel Cup left a mark among the fans. Plaza 1 pointed it out and in this strange August with the only bullfight on Pigeon Day (and two more of rejones) it will confirm in a young profile poster next to Alvaro Lorenzo and Francisco de Manuel. And a run from Fuente Ymbro.

It is common to see him in the lines of the Las Ventas bullring, both in heifers and in bullfights: “I go to Las Ventas a lot as a hobbyI’ve been doing it since I was a child with my father. Now that I’m announced, the way I see bullfights has changed because you look at yourself imagining yourself in front of the bull. I have fought very little but following the season in Madrid helps me to be involved, to follow all the bullfighters and see the reactions of the bull in this arena”.

He ended 2022 with the two bullfights of the contest sponsored by the Community of Madrid. In this 2023 he returned to his town square, to Torrejón, where he could only stab a bull due to the torrential rain that spoiled the celebration. With the desire to have arrived at this appointment with more filming, Rodríguez is satisfied with his good physical and mental preparation: “Since we started in this profession, they instilled in us the importance of physical preparation and bullfighting. It is true that it is fundamental but we forgot about mental preparation, which is the most important thing. When I was announced in the Chenel Cup I had the opportunity to meet Javier Portal (bullfighters coach) who helped me a lot when it came to focusing on what I wanted to do in front of the bull after a very intense month and a half. There were things that I imagined but they did not come out for me due to lack of trade and thanks to the mental preparation things that I have been looking for have been coming out since I wanted to be a bullfighter. Since Javier has been a bullfighter, he knows exactly what we bullfighters feel, he has helped me get to know myself better and know how I can give my best, my one hundred percent.”

“In these days that many people are asking me the typical thing, if I’m nervous or if I have pressure. I don’t know if it will be good but the truth is that I am calm, I am very excited, it is a day that all bullfighters dream of I am looking forward to it now, I am very happy to say that I am a bullfighter and that I am going to confirm my alternative in Madrid”, assures this 30-year-old from Madrid, a lover of classic bullfighting, serenely. An emblematic date in which important things have happened in the history of bullfighting: “August 15 is a very bullfighting day, especially in Madrid, the day of the Virgen de la Paloma. As a fan who has been going to Madrid since I was little, it is a day that I have always taken into account. The bullfighters of the concept that I like have been bullfighters from Madrid and, therefore, bullfighters of this date. It’s something that also motivates me.”

The bench does not worry him. She knows him and has tanned him. He has taken advantage of the time of reflection to grow as a bullfighter. He feels bullfighting as a gift where he can express what he has inside: “After a long stage as a novillero, in the end I didn’t have many contracts, I took the alternative in Torrejón and I was left standing. I went through a difficult personal circumstance, the pandemic arrived and I was working what I could. When the Chenel Cup aroseHe had not fought a single calf for two years. In a month and a half I prepared myself, even the fact of going in the van with the gang motivated me. I took the re-dressing of lights as a gift. Now I see myself advertised in Las Ventas and I think of all the people who have trusted me during this time. I hope to give them satisfaction.”
