Retail chain Action is recalling certain toy figures because traces of asbestos were found in the filling. The company reports this in a warning on its website.
This concerns the Stretch Squad toy figures that were sold between April 2024 and this month, Action writes. When it becomes damaged, the filling can come out. That can pose a health risk.
Last week reported the AD that carcinogenic asbestos was found in various play sand products. The newspaper had twelve toys examined in a laboratory. Asbestos was found in half.
The NVWA has been investigating the presence of asbestos in toy sand for some time now. The NVWA started that investigation after asbestos was found in play sand in Australia. For that reason, dozens of schools closed there in November last year.
A majority of the House of Representatives wants the government to do more to prevent children from playing with contaminated play sand. During question time, outgoing State Secretary Tielen (Youth, Prevention, Sports) was asked why the play sand is not being removed from the shelves as a precaution. According to Tielen, this is only possible once it has been established that the sand is dangerous.
