Agadir, Morocco, is experiencing a surge in urban development, and its ongoing commitment to sustainability is evident in its ambitious green spaces projects. Foremost among these is the Tikiouine Metropolitan Park, a sprawling 30-hectare expanse set to become the new heart of recreational and environmental wellbeing for the city.
Spearheaded by Agadir Souss-Massa Aménagement, the project is the third phase of a larger Urban Development Program (PDU) spanning 2020-2024. This program prioritizes the creation of vibrant green spaces, recognizing that amidst rapid urbanization, these areas are crucial for residents’ physical and mental well-being, as well as for environmental preservation.
The Tikiouine Metropolitan Park’s development boasts a hefty budget of 40.50 MDH, a testament to Agadir’s dedication to its vision. The park envisions a rich tapestry of amenities, including recreational grounds, swimming pools, meticulously landscaped gardens, and dedicated areas for sports and play.
While the project initially faced challenges in securing a suitable location, the team ultimately found an ideal site, ensuring the park’s success. Agadir’s urban development strategy demonstrably recognizes the importance of green spaces, exemplified by the simultaneous development of other parks like Ibn Zaydoun Urban Park, enjoying a prime downtown location, and the Al Inbiâat Urban Park, which opened its doors in July 2024 to the delight of local residents.
The upcoming Eco Sports Park of the Corniche d’Agadir adds another layer to this commitment, promising a unique blend of athletic facilities and natural beauty.
The combined effort to cultivate these green sanctuaries throughout the city reinforces Agadir’s mission to become a model of sustainable urban development. The Tikiouine Metropolitan Park, positioned to become a central gathering place for recreation, relaxation, and community engagement, is set to be a landmark symbol of this ambition.
As Agadir continues its impressive trajectory of growth, these green spaces will act as vital lifelines, ensuring a balance between urban dynamism and environmental consciousness.
