Trump Criticizes BBC Over Edited Speech
US President Donald Trump has criticized “corrupt journalists” from the BBC for the controversial editing of his speech, France press reported.
Earlier today, British Public Radio and Television director general Tim Davey and the media outlet’s head of news, Deborah Turness, resigned over the case.
“These are very dishonest people who tried to influence the outcome of the presidential election (in the US last November),” Trump said in a statement. He did not provide specific details about the alleged manipulation.
The BBC has acknowledged that an editing error occurred during a news report featuring Trump’s remarks. the outlet stated that the edit did not effect the substance of his speech but apologized for the mistake. The incident involved a clip from Trump’s speech being juxtaposed with footage that misrepresented the context of his comments.
The controversy has sparked a political debate in the UK, with some accusing the BBC of bias and others defending its independence. The resignations of Davey and Turness are seen as an attempt to restore public trust in the broadcaster.
