Guangzhou, China – China will host the first Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM) and related sessions of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) from February 1st to 10th in Guangzhou. This event marks the official launch of the APEC “china Year,” as China prepares to host the 33rd APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in November.
According to a statement by Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Guo Jiakun, the SOM is a crucial platform for preparing key outcomes for the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting. These meetings are typically held four to five times annually, facilitating ongoing dialogue and collaboration among APEC member economies.
The Guangzhou SOM will center around the theme of “Building an Asia-Pacific Community to Prosper Together.” Discussions will prioritize three key areas: openness, innovation, and cooperation. These priorities aim to foster comprehensive collaboration across various sectors and mechanisms, with a focus on developing concrete collaborative projects in anticipation of the November Leaders’ Meeting.
Organizers anticipate over 1,000 delegates will participate in more than 50 events held in conjunction with the SOM. Journalists are invited to cover and report on the proceedings, providing insights into the discussions and outcomes of this crucial regional gathering.
