Apple’s 2025 Environmental Progress Report Highlights Renewable Energy and Recycled Materials Growth Apple released its 2025 Environmental Progress Report, detailing continued advancements in renewable energy procurement and recycled material usage across its global supply chain. The report underscores the company’s ongoing efforts to reduce emissions and advance its goal of becoming carbon neutral across its entire business, manufacturing supply chain, and product life cycle by 2030. Operational renewable energy capacity in Apple’s supply chain reached 20.7 gigawatts (GW) in 2025, up from 18.9 GW in 2024 and more than double the 10.3 GW recorded in 2021. This growth reflects the expansion of Apple’s Supplier Clean Energy Program, launched in 2015, which supports suppliers in transitioning to 100% renewable electricity for Apple production through policy advocacy, procurement guidance, data insights, and expert engagement. By 2025, renewable energy use by suppliers increased to 38.3 million megawatt-hours (MWh), up from 31.3 million MWh in 2024. Apple estimates this clean energy procurement avoided more than 26 million metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions in 2025, an increase from 21 million metric tons in the prior year. In parallel, Apple reported progress toward its ambition to build products using 100% recycled or renewable materials. In 2024, the company continued to accelerate the use of recycled content in key product components, including aluminum, tin, and rare earth elements. Apple has achieved 100% recycled aluminum in the enclosures of several product lines and expanded the use of recycled tin in solder and recycled rare earth elements in magnets. These efforts are part of a broader strategy to reduce reliance on primary mining and minimize the environmental impact of material extraction. Apple’s environmental initiatives also include device recycling programs designed to recover valuable materials from end-of-life products. The company offers incentives such as trade-in credits and seasonal discounts to encourage customers to return devices for responsible recycling. Through its global network of recycling partners and disassembly robots like Daisy, Apple recovers materials including gold, copper, cobalt, and plastics for reuse in new products. The company’s Supplier Code of Conduct requires all direct manufacturing suppliers to use 100% renewable electricity for Apple production by 2030. Apple’s 2030 climate goal includes a 75% reduction in emissions compared to a 2015 baseline, with a longer-term commitment to achieve a 90% reduction by 2050. These targets are supported by ongoing investments in renewable energy projects, energy efficiency improvements, and low-carbon design innovations across its product portfolio. Apple’s 2025 Environmental Progress Report is available on the company’s official website and provides a comprehensive overview of its environmental performance, including detailed metrics on energy use, emissions, material sourcing, and waste reduction. The report reflects Apple’s continued transparency in reporting progress toward its long-term sustainability objectives.
