Boards of Canada’s ‘Inferno’ Makes Historic Debut on ARIA Charts
Scottish electronic duo Boards of Canada has achieved a career milestone with the release of their album Inferno, which debuted at No. 3 on Australia’s ARIA Chart for the week of June 5, 2026. This marks their highest chart position ever and their first top-10 appearance, surpassing the No. 24 peak of their 2013 album Tomorrow’s Harvest. The album also topped the ARIA Vinyl Chart, highlighting its popularity among physical media collectors.
Competing with Legends: Paul McCartney’s New Album
Boards of Canada faced stiff competition from music legend Paul McCartney, whose latest album The Boys of Dungeon Lane debuted at No. 5 on the ARIA Albums Chart. McCartney, a two-time Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, has 18 top-10 albums on Australia’s charts, including two No. 1 entries with Wings: Red Rose Speedway and Band On The Run in 1973. His ARIA chart history also includes multiple No. 1 albums as part of The Beatles.
New Entries and Regional Highlights
The ARIA Chart also saw new entries from emerging and established artists. Florida rock band Shinedown debuted at No. 7 with their eighth studio album EI8HT. Australian country artist Amber Lawrence made her mark with Suburban Cowgirl, starting at No. 18. South Korean girl group Aespa achieved a career best with Lemonade, debuting at No. 24.
Australian singer Chloe Parche and Canadian producer Devin Townsend also secured top-40 placements with their respective releases Sitting Next To Nellie (No. 34) and The Moth (No. 36).
Ariana Grande Dominates Singles Chart
The ARIA Singles Chart saw a strong showing from pop superstar Ariana Grande, whose single “Hate That I Made You Love Me” debuted at No. 2. The track, the lead single from her upcoming album Petal, marks Grande’s 31st top-20 single in Australia. She has previously topped the chart with four No. 1 singles, including “Thank U, Next” and “Positions.”
Country flair dominated the singles chart, with Ella Langley’s “Choosin’ Texas” securing its third non-consecutive week at No. 1. Australian acts Tame Impala and G Flip also made waves, with “Dracula” dropping to No. 7 and “Bed on Fire” reaching a new peak at No. 33.
