Armita Geravandan Iranian teenager who has been in a coma since the beginning of this month after an altercation with some agentsfor violating the country’s hijab law, has become “brain dead,” Iranian state media has reported.
“Follow-ups on Armita Geravand’s most recent health status indicate that she is brain dead despite the efforts of medical staff,” the Islamic Republic of Iran News Network said.
Iranian authorities have denied reports from human rights groups that the 16-year-old girl was injured after the argument on October 1 with agents in the Tehran metro because he did not comply with the dress code.
The case of Armita Geravand recalls that of the Iranian Kurdish woman Mahsa Amini22, whose death while detained by the morality police sparked strong protests last year.
