About the Department
International Affairs serves as a central hub for campus internationalization at UNT. We champion the university’s global initiatives and provide vital support to our international community. This position will be within the International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) office,dedicated to providing compassionate immigration advice and support to UNT’s 12,000+ international students,scholars,and alumni.
Position Overview
As Assistant Director, you will provide crucial leadership within ISSS, focusing on staff progress, operational efficiency, and extraordinary customer service. You will be responsible for designing comprehensive training programs, directing front desk operations, and supervising a team of full-time and part-time staff. Your efforts will ensure all ISSS team members are well-equipped to deliver high-quality, consistent advising and support while upholding compliance and institutional values.
Responsibilities Include:
Leading the design and implementation of comprehensive staff training programs.
directing front desk operations and ensuring efficient service delivery.
Supervising and mentoring a team of full-time and part-time staff.
Fostering a culture of continuous professional growth and excellent customer service.
Ensuring compliance with immigration regulations and promoting institutional values.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
Five years of professional related work experience, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Skills & Abilities:
Thorough knowledge of international sponsored student advising and scholarship requirements.
Proven ability to plan, organize, implement, and direct the work of others.
Comprehensive understanding of F1 student immigration regulations, the SEVIS database, and Sunapsis Case Management System.
Ability to serve as an Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) and Designated School official (DSO).
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex regulations clearly.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with campus stakeholders.
Demonstrated problem-solving, time management, and process improvement skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Assistant Director, International student & Scholar Services – Job Description Summary
This position at the University of North Texas (UNT) seeks a highly qualified individual to join International Student & Scholar services (ISSS) as an Assistant Director. The role involves leadership, compliance, and process improvement within a high-volume habitat serving a diverse international student and scholar population.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Management: Supervise and manage an assigned team.
Compliance & Data Management: Ensure accuracy and integrity of student data within systems like SEVIS and Sunapsis, and maintain compliance with federal/state regulations.
Process Improvement: Identify and implement improvements to ISSS processes, including developing and delivering training.
Communication & collaboration: Advise partners, liaise with campus colleagues, and engage in professional development.
DSO/ARO Duties: Serve as a Designated School Official (DSO) and/or Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) as needed.
Qualifications:
Required: Must meet federal requirements for DSO/ARO certification.
Desired: Experience with SEVIS,Sunapsis,and PeopleSoft. Strong training, customer service, communication, presentation, and cross-cultural communication skills. Demonstrated leadership and team-building abilities. Experience in a high-volume setting.
