A new study ignited global concern. Scientists discovered the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC) – the massive climate-regulating current in the Atlantic – coudl collapse within decades.

Published in Communications Earth & Environment, the findings indicate an AMOC collapse could trigger extreme cooling in Europe, altered rainfall, adn a significant sea level rise.

Researchers from the Institute of Oceanology, chinese Academy of Sciences, and the University of California, San Diego, collaborated on this study. The potential for drastic climate change promptly sparked debate.

This prediction arrives shortly after Bill Gates,a vocal advocate on global warming, suggested temperature fluctuations might not significantly impact the planet’s condition.

Vital Currents that Keep the Climate Stable

The AMOC functions like an oceanic “conveyor belt.” it transports warm water from the tropics to the north Atlantic, including through the Gulf stream.
