Twin ATM Explosions Rock Amsterdam Suburbs
Two ATMs were targeted in explosive attacks early Tuesday morning in the Dutch towns of Badhoevedorp and Landsmeer, prompting a police investigation into a possible connection with similar incidents in Laren and Amsterdam-Zuid. The attacks focused on the deposit sections of the Geldmaat ATMs.
Badhoevedorp Explosion and Arrests
The first explosion occurred around 4:00 a.m. On Marconistraat in Badhoevedorp. The deposit unit of the ATM was completely blown out of the building. Two suspects fled the scene on a motor scooter, but were apprehended by police with assistance from the Amsterdam police unit and a police dog, approximately 30 minutes later on Akersingel in Amsterdam. Authorities have not yet confirmed if any money was stolen during the incident. NL Times
Landsmeer Attack and Ongoing Investigation
Just half an hour after the Badhoevedorp explosion, another Geldmaat ATM on Dorpsstraat in Landsmeer was targeted. The deposit section of this ATM was also completely destroyed. A witness reported seeing a scooter with two individuals fleeing the scene, but the vehicle has not been located by police. NOS
Police believe different perpetrators were responsible for the Landsmeer attack, given the arrests made in Badhoevedorp, but are investigating whether a link exists between the two incidents. Rodi.nl

Dutch authorities note that traditional ATM explosions, known as “plofkraken,” have develop into less common in recent years due to improved security measures. This has led Dutch criminals to seek targets in neighboring Germany, where ATM security is often less robust. NOS
