Audi A2 e-tron: The Brand’s New Entry-Level EV
Audi is preparing to expand its electric vehicle lineup with the A2 e-tron, a new entry-level EV positioned to replace both the A1 and Q2 models. The A2 e-tron is slated for release by the end of 2026, with deliveries potentially starting in early 2027, and aims to fill a gap in the market left by the discontinued BMW i3.
Development and Platform
The Audi A2 e-tron will be built on the Volkswagen Group’s MEB platform, the same platform used by the Volkswagen ID.3 and Cupra Born [1]. It will utilize existing engine options, offering power outputs of 231, 286, and 340 horsepower. Battery capacity is expected to be around 79 kWh, potentially providing a range of up to 600 kilometers (approximately 373 miles) according to WLTP standards [1]. However, the A2 e-tron will not feature 800V architecture, meaning it will lack ultra-quick charging capabilities.
Interior Design
Recent photographs reveal the A2 e-tron’s interior shares significant design elements with the Audi Q3. Key features include a large curved digital panel integrating instrumentation and infotainment, as well as a dual-flat multifunction steering wheel. The vehicle similarly incorporates the latest controls and gear selector design introduced with the Q3.
Positioning and Pricing
Audi intends for the A2 e-tron to be its most affordable electric vehicle, with a starting price around £30,000 (approximately $41,000 USD) [1]. Unlike the Q4 e-tron, which was largely a rebadged Volkswagen ID.4, the A2 e-tron is being developed with a unique design to differentiate it from its Volkswagen and Cupra counterparts.
Testing and Release
Prototypes of the Audi A2 e-tron have been undergoing testing in various conditions, including in Sweden’s Arctic Circle [3]. The official unveiling is expected in the second half of 2026 [3].
The Audi e-tron is a series of electric and hybrid cars shown by Audi from 2009 onwards [1]. The first fully electric e-tron SUV went into production in 2019 [1]. However, the original e-tron SUV has since been rebranded as the Audi Q8 e-tron.
