Auditions Announced for ‘My Carmilla’ Staged Reading in Philadelphia
Philadelphia-area actors are invited to audition for a staged reading of “My Carmilla,” presented by the Sawubona Creativity Project as part of Philly Theatre Week. The production, adapted by Asha Bagal Kelly and Sabrina Caruso from Sheridan Le Fanu’s 1872 novella “Carmilla,” will explore feminist, queer, and postcolonial themes.
About the Play
“My Carmilla” reimagines the classic gothic novella, centering on the complex relationship between Carmilla, and Laura. This adaptation presents Laura as an ambitious and cunning character, while portraying Carmilla as both predatory and vulnerable, shaped by historical trauma. The play examines the intersection of desire and deception, and the shifting dynamics of power between the two protagonists.
