Australian Open 2026 prize Money Reaches Record $111.5 Million
The 2026 Australian Open is set to award a record AUD $111.5 million (approximately €64 million) in prize money, marking a 16% increase from the previous year. This significant boost underscores Tennis Australia’s commitment to supporting players at all levels of the professional game.
Increased Prize Money Across all rounds
The prize money increase isn’t limited to the top players.A minimum increase of 10% will be awarded to all singles and doubles competitors, with qualifying rounds seeing a more notable 16% rise. This demonstrates a focus on supporting players ranked outside the top 100, where financial rewards can have a substantial impact on their careers.
Specifically, players losing in the first round of the Australian Open will receive €23,000, a notable increase compared to the €19,000 awarded to the winner of the concurrent canberra Challenger event.
Expanded Player support
Beyond prize money, Tennis Australia is increasing its investment in player support, with a 67% increase in travel assistance and enhanced welfare initiatives. These improvements aim to alleviate the financial burdens associated with competing on the international circuit.
“This 16 percent increase demonstrates our commitment to supporting careers at all levels,” said Craig Tiley, CEO of Tennis Australia. “From the 55% increase in the qualifying prize pool compared to 2023 to the improvement of benefits for the players, we are ensuring that professional tennis is lasting for all participants.”
investment in the Summer of Tennis
The prize money increase is part of a larger $135 million investment by Tennis Australia in the Summer of Tennis series. This investment is intended to strengthen the foundations of the sport and foster the development of future talent.
“This investment strengthens the foundations of tennis, ensuring the long-term health and commercial growth of the sport,” Tiley added. “By supporting players at all levels, we are creating a broader talent pool and more compelling stories for fans.”
