Bus Accident on Fern Pass Injures Over 20 People

A serious bus accident occurred on the Fern Pass in Tyrol, Austria, on Saturday, March 7, 2026, resulting in over 20 injuries. The incident involved a collision between a car and a coach from Bavaria, Germany.

Details of the Accident

The accident took place between Bichlbach and Lermoos on the B179, a key route connecting the Inn Valley to the Reschen Pass and onward to Italy . According to police reports, a German vehicle collided with a Bavarian coach carrying 47 passengers shortly after 7 a.m.

The car sustained significant damage, particularly on the driver’s side, while the coach was crushed on the lower driver’s side, with the windshield shattered.

Emergency Response and Injuries

Emergency services from the Reutte fire department were dispatched to the scene to rescue the injured and secure the area . The driver of the car, a 66-year-old man from the Karlsruhe district and a female passenger were seriously injured. The woman was airlifted to Murnau Accident Hospital in Upper Bavaria via the Christophorus 5 rescue helicopter, while the man was transported to Reutte Hospital in Tyrol. An additional passenger from the car and the bus driver were also taken to Reutte Hospital. 20 bus passengers sustained minor injuries.

Traffic Disruption

The B179 was completely closed for two hours following the accident, causing a substantial traffic backlog stretching several kilometers. Traffic was diverted past the accident site, initially with one lane open, and later with both lanes reopened by 10:20 a.m. Firefighters continued to clean up leaked fuel late in the morning.

The ÖAMTC reported traffic jams extending as far as Nassereith, with opposing traffic backed up almost to Reutte. At around 11 a.m., a 17-kilometer traffic jam was reported in a northerly direction .
