Ayaneo Next 2 Pre-Orders Suspended Due to Memory Price Surge
You can no longer purchase Ayaneo’s upcoming Windows handheld gaming console due to a global memory shortage and subsequent price increases.
Prices for the Ayaneo Next 2, a Steam Deck-like device running Windows 11, were already high, with a configuration offering 32GB of RAM and 1TB of storage priced at $1,999. Now, the brand has suspended orders indefinitely, citing rapidly rising memory costs.
Ayaneo updated customers on its Indiegogo page, as first reported by Android Authority, announcing the suspension of future preorders. The company confirmed that all orders placed between February 10th and the date of the suspension would still be fulfilled.
Rising Costs Force Suspension
Ayaneo stated that costs were already “very high” when the product was initially offered for preorder. However, fluctuations in supplier pricing around the Chinese New Year prompted the company to halt future orders.
According to Ayaneo, “We found that storage prices had increased to several times higher than before the holiday. Under such circumstances, the overall cost of the product has turn into far higher than our current selling price. After careful consideration, we have decided to suspend the pre-orders of NEXT 2.”
The company explained that while it was initially willing to accept a small loss on the device, the current production costs are now approaching “twice the price we originally set.”
Next 2 Pricing Before Suspension
When launched, the Ayaneo Next 2 was not an inexpensive device. The base model sold for $1,999, though an early-bird price of $1,799 was offered. Other configurations included a model with 64GB of RAM and 1TB of storage for $2,699, and a high-end version with 128GB of RAM and 2TB of storage costing $4,299.
Future Availability Uncertain
Ayaneo has indicated that this is not necessarily a permanent end to the Next 2, describing the suspension as temporary. The company stated, “If storage prices return to more reasonable levels in the future, we may consider resuming the sale of NEXT 2. At this time, we cannot predict when storage prices will decline, but we will continue to closely monitor market changes.”
The broader memory market situation remains uncertain. Some analysts predict the crisis will continue throughout 2026, with potential improvements towards the end of 2027. However, other suppliers believe a return to normal levels may not occur until 2030.
