Newborn Baby Dies After Fall in Westminster, Woman Arrested on Suspicion of Murder

A 43-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of murder after an 18-day-old baby girl died following a fall from a height in central London. The incident occurred at a residential property on Horseferry Road in Westminster on Saturday morning, March 14, 2026.

Details of the Incident

Police were called to the address at approximately 7:30 GMT following reports that the baby had fallen from height . The infant was immediately taken to a hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

A 43-year-old woman was arrested at the scene and remains in police custody .

Investigation Underway

A murder investigation has been launched, and police are currently treating the incident as occurring within a domestic context . Detective Chief Inspector Alison Foxwell, leading the Metropolitan Police investigation, has appealed for anyone with information to come forward.

“At this stage, we believe the incident occurred within a domestic context, but we are appealing for anybody with information to come forward,” DCI Foxwell stated .

Scene and Road Closures

A police cordon remains in place on Horseferry Road and part of Great Peter Street, causing traffic disruptions . Forensic officers were observed working at a third-floor flat on the Peabody Estate, appearing to measure an open window .

Statement from Authorities

“Our thoughts today are with the baby’s family,” DCI Alison Foxwell said. “The death of an infant is always an extremely tragic occurrence, and officers are making urgent enquiries around the circumstances.”
