BART Transbay Tube Service Disrupted by Equipment Failure, Bus Bridge in Affect

San Francisco, CA – November 2, 2025 – Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) experienced a notable service disruption on the Transbay Tube Saturday night, impacting travel between San Francisco and the East Bay. The interruption, affecting service at SFO, Millbrae, and East Bay stations, was attributed to an equipment failure, according to BART officials.

Service was temporarily halted while crews worked to diagnose and resolve the issue. To mitigate the impact on commuters, BART implemented a bus bridge connecting San Francisco and the East Bay.

Bus Bridge Details:

* San Francisco to East Bay: Passengers traveling from San Francisco to the East Bay were directed to utilize air-conditioned transit bus route N/L departing from the Salesforce Transit Center.
* East Bay to San Francisco: Travelers heading to San Francisco from the East bay were advised to board the same air-conditioned bus route N/L at the intersection of 20th Street and Broadway in Oakland.

BART confirmed that full service through the Transbay Tube was restored around 9:00 PM on saturday.

Ongoing Maintenance and Future Reliability

While the immediate issue has been resolved, BART is committed to ongoing maintenance and upgrades to ensure the reliability of the Transbay Tube system. The agency regularly inspects and maintains critical infrastructure to prevent future disruptions. Passengers are encouraged to check the BART website (https://www.bart.gov/) or the official BART Twitter account (@BARTnews) for real-time service updates and planned maintenance advisories.
