Bengaluru Woman Ties Up Boyfriend and Sets Him on Fire After Marriage Proposal Rejection A 27-year-old woman in Bengaluru was arrested for allegedly tying up her boyfriend, dousing him in inflammable liquid, and setting him on fire after he rejected her marriage proposal. The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon at her residence in northwest Bengaluru, according to police reports. Prema and Kiran, both 27, were colleagues at a mobile service provider store in Rajajinagar and had been in a relationship for two years. Police said Prema invited Kiran to her home after her mother and brother left for work. Kiran had reportedly scrapped plans to visit Nelamangala to meet her. Upon arrival, Prema allegedly offered Kiran a “surprise” and “a good time.” She blindfolded him and tied his hands and legs with a rope. When he questioned her, she reassured him it was “part of an act.” Minutes later, she poured an inflammable liquid—identified by authorities as either kerosene or petrol—on him and set him ablaze. Kiran struggled to free himself but died on the spot. Prema’s neighbors heard his screams and noticed thick smoke, prompting them to alert authorities. Fire and emergency services personnel rushed to the scene. Initially, police suspected suicide based on Prema’s claim that she was in the bathroom when she heard a loud noise. However, inconsistencies in her statement and further investigation contradicted this account. Investigators found that Prema had purchased the inflammable liquid in advance and allegedly recorded Kiran’s final moments on her mobile phone, which has been seized. During sustained interrogation, Prema reportedly confessed to the crime. A senior officer stated, “Investigation, prima facie, indicates the woman, in the guise of a romantic interlude, tied the victim and set him on fire. Further investigation is on.” Prema has been arrested on murder charges. The case is being investigated under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. No further details about court proceedings or potential sentencing have been released as of this report.
