Superman’s New Movie Trailer Breaks Records, Leaving Fans Buzzing

Fans are already proclaiming David Corenswet as the heir apparent to the Superman mantle after the explosive release of the live-action “Superman” trailer.

The highly anticipated teaser, dropped by director James Gunn on Friday, smashed expectations, raking in over 250 million views in its first day alone. This incredible feat not only makes it the most viewed DC and Warner Bros. trailer ever, but also surpasses many major movie releases of the year.

Breaking Records and Shattering Expectations

“Krypto really did take us home: With over 250 million views and a million social posts, ‘Superman’ is officially the most viewed and the most talked about trailer in the history of both DC and Warner Bros,” Gunn proudly announced on his social media platforms. “This is because of all of you: thank you! We’re incredibly grateful and, most of all, excited to share this movie with you in July. Happy Holidays!”

For comparison, the “Joker: Folie à Deux” trailer achieved 167 million views in its first 24 hours, while “Inside Out 2,” the highest-grossing movie of the year, garnered 157 million views for its trailer. However, the record for the biggest trailer launch still belongs to Marvel’s “Deadpool and Wolverine” with a staggering 365 million views.

A New Era of Superman

The “Superman” teaser provided a tantalizing first glimpse of Dave Corenswet as the iconic Kryptonian hero, along with exciting introductions to Nicholas Hoult as the enigmatic Lex Luthor and a multitude of new faces joining the DC Universe.

We see Krypto the Superdog, Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced), Green Lantern Guy Gardner (Nathan Fillion), Mister Terrific (Edi Gathegi), and Metamorpho (Anthony Carrigan), among others. The trailer also teased the budding romance between Superman and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane.

“We’re embracing all of the Superman mythology,” Gunn revealed to Variety about the film. “He has friends who are other superheroes. He has people he doesn’t get along as well with who are other superheroes. He has a lot of the things that we love from the Superman comics that we haven’t been able to see as much of in filmed media, and definitely haven’t been able to see in a grounded way, which is what I hope we’ve created.”

James Gunn’s “Superman” is slated to hit theaters on July 11, 2024, from Warner Bros. Pictures.
