Dairy Market Celebrates Black History Month with Artisan Market
Charlottesville’s Dairy Market will host its Black Artisan Market this Saturday, February 28, 2026, from 11 a.m. To 4 p.m., commemorating the final day of Black History Month. The event aims to uplift and support local Black entrepreneurs and artists.
Supporting Local Black Businesses
The market will feature 15 local vendors offering a diverse range of products, including jewelry, skincare, vegan snacks, soaps, and candles [1]. Dairy Market General Manager Anna Payne emphasized the market’s purpose: “The purpose is to celebrate Black History Month, because we want to uplift and support our local black entrepreneurs and artists.” [1]
More Than Just Shopping
Attendees can also enjoy music from two local DJs and professional headshots provided by K’re Johnson of Kreative Kulture Production. Those interested in headshots are encouraged to contact Johnson on social media to reserve a time slot [1].
Community Partnerships and Discounts
The Dairy Market has partnered with the Jefferson School African American Heritage Center to offer a 15% discount to participants in the Liberation and Freedom Day Run and Walk, scheduled for March 3. The discount will be redeemable on race day [1].
A Culinary Highlight
Vizena Howard, President of the 10th/Page Neighborhood Association, will be offering soul food, including fried fish, fried chicken, greens, and mac and cheese. Payne highlighted this as a favorite part of the event, stating, “If you love fried fish, fried chicken, greens, mac and cheese…you don’t want to miss Ms. Howard. It’s always a real treat.” [1]
Commitment to Community Events
The Black Artisan Market is part of the Dairy Market’s initiative to host community events regularly, aiming for at least once a quarter. Payne expressed the market’s desire to be a community hub and host fresh, engaging events, including a potential “urban pop-up” featuring local artisans selling handmade goods [1].
