Mariners Lead Blue Jays in ALCS After 10-3 Win

TORONTO – Louis Varland stepped onto teh mound at Rogers Center and looked toward centre field. the Toronto Blue jays reliever then covered his face with his hands as Jorge Polanco’s hit sailed over the wall, just beyond his jumping teammate Daulton Varsho.

Polanco’s three-run home run gave the Seattle Mariners a three-run lead in Game 2 of the ALCS.Varland pulled his jersey over his mouth and looked down at the ground as Polanco ran the bases.

This was the second time on Sunday night that Seattle hit a three-run home run. While the Blue Jays recovered after the first one – which came in the first inning off starter Trey Yesavage, who was charged with the loss – they couldn’t overcome the 6-3 lead Polanco created in the fifth inning, leading to a 10-3 Mariners victory.

“I blew the tie and gave up runs in a tough spot, so I’m not happy,” Varland said after the game, as a disappointed crowd left the stadium.Seattle now has a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven series.

This is the second time in the playoffs that varland has allowed a three-run home run. The 27-year-old from Minnesota is the only blue Jays reliever to appear in all six playoff games, and he’s often been brought in during arduous situations.
