Brazilian United Soccer Camp to Enhance Mid-Missouri’s Soccer Scene Amidst World Cup Excitement

Columbia, Missouri, is set to host a Brazilian United soccer camp from July 6-10 at Cosmo Park, coinciding with the FIFA World Cup matches taking place in Kansas City. The camp aims to bring a Brazilian soccer lifestyle to mid-Missouri, fostering a deeper appreciation for the sport beyond its competitive aspects.

World Cup Presence in Kansas City

Kansas City will be a host city for the FIFA World Cup, with six matches scheduled for June 16, 20, 25, 27, July 3, and July 11 . This event is expected to boost soccer enthusiasm throughout the region, and the Brazilian United camp seeks to capitalize on this momentum.

More Than Just a Sport: A Brazilian Approach

Brazilian United coach Lucas Padilha emphasizes that soccer is more than just a game; it’s a way of life. “This is more than just a sport, it’s our life, and we seek to make them understand that and make them love this as much as we do,” Padilha stated. The camp will focus on instilling a passion for the sport in young players.

Growing Soccer Interest in Mid-Missouri

Mid-Missouri already has a thriving soccer community, with parents like Natalie Dixon Crewell recognizing the benefits of the sport for children’s development. “It’s a great asset for his confidence and he is learning that the hard work to play soccer, shows up in his other sports as well,” Crewell said. She likewise expressed hope that the camp and the World Cup exposure will inspire greater participation in soccer within Missouri.

A Potential Catalyst for Soccer Growth

Crewell believes the events could elevate soccer’s profile in the state. “I’m really excited that this is going to, hopefully, change the stage for soccer in Missouri and maybe inspire more participation,” she said. Padilha echoed this sentiment, stressing the importance of fun and passion in the game. “The most important things are to have fun and to have passion for this sport,” he added.

Looking Ahead

The Brazilian United camp and the FIFA World Cup matches in Kansas City represent a significant opportunity to cultivate a deeper love for soccer in mid-Missouri and potentially develop future talent. As Crewell envisions, “Maybe this will be our time to develop a program as well so that maybe one day we’ll be watching our kids in the World Cup.” Registration for the camp will remain open until its start date on July 6.
