Cleveland Browns Make Roster Moves: Greg Newsome II Placed on IR, Kadarius Toney Waived
The Cleveland Browns continue to make adjustments to their roster as they prepare for the upcoming season. In a series of moves announced today, the team placed cornerback Greg Newsome II on Injured Reserve due to a hamstring injury. Wide receiver Kadarius Toney was also waived.
The Browns also bolstered their practice squad, signing wide receivers Kaden Davis and Jaelen Gill, kicker Riley Patterson, and tackle Julian Pearl. Defensive tackle Michael Dwumfour was released from the practice squad to make room for the new additions.
Newsome’s Injury
Newsome, a key member of the Browns’ defensive backfield, appeared in 13 games with three starts this season. He recorded 27 tackles, one interception, and five passes defensed.
Toney’s Short Stint in Cleveland
Acquired via trade earlier this season, Toney appeared in just three games for the Browns, recording two rushing attempts and four punt returns for 44 yards.
New Faces on the Practice Squad
The Browns welcomed several new faces to their practice squad. Here’s a look at the fresh additions:
* **Kaden Davis:** The undrafted rookie out of Northwest Missouri State has spent time with the Denver Broncos, Arizona Cardinals, Detroit Lions, and Baltimore Ravens. Davis will wear number 89 for the Browns.
* **Jaelen Gill:** Gill, a rookie wide receiver from Fresno State, was originally signed by the Los Angeles Chargers as an undrafted free agent. He will wear number 83 for the Browns.
* **Riley Patterson:** The veteran kicker enters his fourth NFL season after stints with the Detroit Lions, Jacksonville Jaguars, Cleveland Browns, and New York Jets. Patterson boasts a strong field goal accuracy of 88%, having made 59 of 67 attempts and 96 of 100 PATs in his career. He will wear number 10 for Cleveland.
* **Julian Pearl:** Pearl, a rookie offensive tackle from Illinois, was initially signed by the Baltimore Ravens. He spent time on the Minnesota Vikings’ practice squad this season. Pearl will don number 60 for the Browns.
The Browns’ next week will likely see further roster moves as they finalize their preparation for their next game.
