BTS’ Comeback Concert Sets Record in Seoul, Launches New Era for K-Pop Group
Seoul, South Korea – March 21, 2026 – BTS captivated over 250,000 fans in Seoul on Saturday, marking the largest-ever public concert in South Korea and signaling a triumphant return for the K-pop phenomenon after a nearly four-year hiatus. The event, held at Gwanghwamun Square, celebrated the release of their fifth full-length studio album, “Arirang,” and served as a launchpad for their ambitious upcoming world tour.
A Historic Comeback
While 22,000 fans secured coveted “Golden Tickets” for designated seating, an estimated 230,000 additional fans gathered to experience the free concert via video screens, according to CNN reports. The concert showcased eight new songs from “Arirang,” including the debut performance of “Body to Body,” “Aliens,” “Normal,” and “2.0,” alongside beloved hits like “Dynamite,” “Butter,” and “Mic Drop.”
“Arirang” and a Global Tour
The album “Arirang,” released on Friday, draws inspiration from the Korean traditional folk song of the same name, considered the country’s unofficial national anthem. The album explores themes of personal identity and belonging. Following the Seoul concert, BTS is embarking on an 82-date world tour, beginning April 9, covering 34 regions between April 2026 and March 2027 as reported by KCCI.
RM Performs Despite Injury
The concert proceeded despite a last-minute injury to BTS member RM. Substantial Hit Music announced earlier in the week that RM sustained “a sprain of the accessory navicular, a partial ligament tear, and a talus contusion” according to Rolling Stone, limiting his choreography during the performance. He performed while seated.
Economic and Cultural Impact
The return of BTS is already having a significant impact on Seoul, with hotels experiencing a surge in prices and police preparing for extensive crowd control. Economists are noting the “BTS-nomics” effect – the measurable economic boost to tourism and retail as detailed by SeatPick. Fans attending the concert were notably inspired by hanbok, traditional Korean dress, with social media showcasing numerous outfit inspirations incorporating the style.
Streaming and Documentary Release
The Comeback Live – Arirang concert was also streamed live on Netflix, and a documentary chronicling the group’s reunion and the concert will also be available on the platform.
Upcoming U.S. Appearance
BTS is scheduled to perform in the U.S. On March 23 for the Spotify x BTS: SWIMSIDE event, marking their first stateside performance since beginning their hiatus for mandatory military service. They will also appear on The Tonight Show.
