Bulgaria’s Acting Finance Minister Urges Public Sector Salary Increases, Announces New Budget Extension

Sofia, Bulgaria – Acting Minister of Finance Georgi Klisurski has called on all departments, ministries and municipalities in Bulgaria to implement the stipulated 5 percent salary increase for employees, as mandated by recent legislation. He also announced plans for a second extension law regarding the national budget.

Salary Increase Implementation

During a regular weekly briefing of the Coordination Center for the Euro Mechanism, Klisurski emphasized that many public sector entities have yet to enact the salary increases, despite the legal requirement. He directly urged heads of departments and state structures to prioritize the implementation of these increases.

Budget Extension Law

Klisurski revealed that the caretaker government will soon announce a second extension law for the budget, as the current one is set to expire on March 31st. The extension will continue to index public sector salaries to the annual inflation rate.

Upcoming Election Bill Plan

The acting minister also stated that the caretaker government’s first and extraordinary meeting will focus on adopting the bill plan for the upcoming elections scheduled for April 19th.
