Chickasaw Nation Celebrates One of Its Own as Nurse Leader Inducted into Prestigious Academy

Judy Goforth Parker, Ph.D., APRN, CNP, FACHE, has achieved a remarkable milestone in her illustrious career: induction into the esteemed American Academy of Nursing. This prestigious honor recognizes individuals who have made extraordinary contributions to the field of nursing, serving as a testament to Dr. Parker’s unwavering dedication to improving the health and well-being of others.

The Chickasaw citizen, with over two decades of experience and a deep commitment to her community, wasn’t alone in this journey. Former colleagues Emily Jones, Ph.D., RNC-OB, FAHA, FPCNA, and Melissa Craft, Ph.D., APRN-CNS, AOCN, FAAN, spearheaded her nomination, recognizing Dr. Parker’s tireless work and advocacy for health equity.

“Without their support, this would not have happened,” Dr. Parker humbly acknowledged, emphasizing the collaborative nature of her success.

Dr. Parker’s dedication to nursing has spanned across numerous facets of the profession. She champions education as a lifelong endeavor, having earned both a master’s degree in nursing and advanced practice nursing from the University of Oklahoma, later culminating in a doctorate in nursing from Texas Woman’s University.

Her journey into leadership within the Chickasaw Nation is equally impressive. As Commissioner of Health Policy, Dr. Parker spearheads efforts to advocate for improved healthcare outcomes within her community, actively contributing to state and national committees focused on Native American health policies.

"In my role, I advocate for the improved health of Chickasaw citizens," Dr. Parker stated, demonstrating her unwavering commitment to her people.

The induction ceremony, held during the 2024 Health Policy Conference in Washington D.C., was a momentous occasion. Dr. Parker shared her observations, stating, "I think they did a really great job acknowledging the accomplishments of all these different nurses, and I enjoyed seeing what people had done and the impact they had made throughout their career."
