Toronto – The Canadian government stated that Mexico “remains a strategic ally” in the context of redefining canada’s economic relationship with the United States and the T-MEC treaty review in 2026.
In an appearance before a Canadian Senate Committee, the minister responsible for Canada’s trade relations, Dominic LeBlanc, declared that “as a commercial partner to Canada and part of the T-MEC, Mexico remains a strategic ally.”
LeBlanc’s statements come as Canada attempts to rebuild relations with Mexico, following comments from Canadian authorities earlier this year suggesting Mexico be expelled from the T-MEC to avoid disputes.

LeBlanc, who met in mid-September with Mexican Secretary of Economy Marcelo Ebrard during the visit of canadian Prime minister Mark Carney to Mexico, revealed he will return to the country in the coming months leading a trade mission.
“I will lead a trade mission to Mexico in the coming months with Canadian, small and large companies, who are very enthusiastic about deepening bilateral relations with Mexico,” he explained.
