Canadian tennis fans have much to celebrate following strong performances at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, California, and on the ITF circuit. From thrilling matchups to first-time titles, Canadian players are making their mark on the international stage.
BNP Paribas Open: A Strong Showing in Tennis Paradise
The BNP Paribas Open, held March 1-15, 2026, at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden, saw a significant Canadian presence, with eight players competing in the singles draws – one of the largest contingents the country has ever sent to a tournament abroad.BNP Paribas Open
Singles Successes and Challenges
Victoria Mboko continued her impressive form, reaching the round of 16 without dropping a set, defeating Kimberly Birrell and Anna Kalinskaya (ranked 23rd).Tennis Canada However, she was the only Canadian to win a singles match in the desert this year. Leylah Annie Fernandez, Bianca Andreescu, and Marina Stakusic all fell in three-set battles.
Marina Stakusic was competing in a 1000 category main draw outside of Canada for the first time, having successfully qualified for the tournament.
Men’s Draw Highlights
Félix Auger-Aliassime reached the round of 16 at Indian Wells for the first time since 2023, securing a thrilling three-set victory over compatriot Gabriel Diallo.Tennis Canada Diallo had previously achieved a significant win against Andrey Rublev (ranked 17th) in the second round.Tennis Canada Denis Shapovalov also had a strong showing, winning three-set matches against Stefanos Tsitsipas and Tomas Martin Etcheverry (ranked 29th), before being stopped by Jannik Sinner.
Doubles Action
