Canadiens Soar with Three-Goal Second Period, Defeat Flyers
The Montreal Canadiens dominated the second period, scoring three unanswered goals to secure a victory over the Philadelphia Flyers.
Gallagher Breaks Out
Montreal took control early in the second period with Cole Caufield’s power-play goal at 12:48, extending their lead to 3-1. Shortly after, a lucky bounce led to another goal for the Canadiens. A deflected shot landed on the stick of Jake Evans, who capitalized on the opportunity to make it 4-1.
The pivotal moments marked Gallagher’s first points in seven games.
“Take them when you can get them,” said Gallagher. “The League’s hard enough, so when you get breaks like that, you take them. You look at the stat sheet, end up with two, probably wasn’t one of my better games. But throughout the year I’ve felt pretty good, so it’s nice to get rewarded. Just kind of move on and hopefully continue to roll.”
Teammates clearly appreciated Gallagher’s consistent effort. “Sometimes it’s easy to focus in on points, but I’d say, especially a guy like that, he has so much more to bring to the table to help the team win,” shared teammate Matheson. “And sometimes a puck goes in off your knee, and you break a stick, and it goes to a guy back door. Sometimes those sorts of things happen, and usually they do when you’ve been doing a lot of other things well.”
Wild Third Period Leads to Nail-Biter
The first period saw Suzuki give Montreal an early lead at 10:42 before Sanheim tied it up for the Flyers at 17:24. However, Philadelphia fought hard in the third, with Sanheim and Konecny scoring 29 seconds apart to close the gap to 4-3. But the Canadiens held on for the crucial victory.
