Carmel Claims 12th Straight IHSAA Boys Swimming Title, Penn Finishes Second
INDIANAPOLIS – The Carmel Greyhounds secured their 12th consecutive IHSAA Boys Swimming and Diving State Championship on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at the IU Natatorium. Carmel finished with 408 points, well ahead of runner-up Penn, who scored 247 points – a program record for the Kingsmen.
Carmel Dominates, Penn Sets Program Record
Carmel’s victory marks their continued dominance in Indiana high school swimming. The Greyhounds’ 408 points were the fourth-highest total in state history and the third consecutive year they’ve surpassed 400 points. IHSAA
Penn’s second-place finish represents a significant achievement for the program, setting a new program record for points scored. This is the second time in three years Penn has finished as state runner-up. IndyStar, WSBT
Individual Performances Shine
Several athletes delivered standout performances during the state finals:
- Trent Allen (Carmel): Won both the 200-yard freestyle (1:35.08) and the 500-yard freestyle (4:20.02), becoming a back-to-back champion in both events. IndyStar
- Yi Zheng (Carmel): Won the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 1:43.92, improving upon his second-place finish from the previous year. He also contributed to Carmel’s winning 200-yard medley relay team. IndyStar
- Alex Koo (Fishers): Captured the state title in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 48.15. IndyStar
- Lucas Ackermann (Franklin): Won the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 53.23. IndyStar
- Carter Hadley (Carmel): Earned his first state title in the 100-yard backstroke, finishing with a time of 48.41. IndyStar
- Ian Parrott (Warsaw): Won the IHSAA Boys Diving Individual Championship and was named the IHSAA Mental Attitude Award Winner for boys’ swimming. WSBT
- Peter Kovacs (Bloomington South): Won the 50 freestyle (20.12) and 100 freestyle (22.81). IndyStar
Relay Results
Carmel also excelled in the relay events, winning the 200-yard medley relay (1:29.24) and the 400-yard freestyle relay (2:57.63). Penn finished second in both the 200-yard medley relay (1:30.08) and the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:22.46). IndyStar
