Catherine O’Hara’s Cause of Death Revealed as Pulmonary Embolism with Rectal Cancer
Catherine O’Hara, the celebrated comedic actress known for her roles in “Home Alone” adn “Schitt’s Creek,” died on January 30th at the age of 71 due to a pulmonary embolism, according to a los Angeles County death certificate. Rectal cancer was listed as the underlying cause.
The certificate, released on Monday, details that O’Hara had been under the care of an oncologist since march of the previous year, with her last appointment occurring just days before her death on January 27th. She passed away at a hospital in Santa Monica, California.
O’Hara’s death came as a shock to many, with an initial statement from her representatives citing a “brief illness.” The Toronto-born actress enjoyed a 50-year career, achieving widespread recognition for her portrayal of Kate McCallister in the “Home Alone” films and winning an Emmy award for her performance as Moira Rose in “Schitt’s Creek.”
Following her passing, tributes poured in from colleagues and fans, including Macaulay Culkin, Christopher Guest, Eugene Levy, and Pedro Pascal. The death certificate confirms that her remains were cremated, and lists her occupation as “actress” with “movies” as her business.
