Professional Tattoo Artists Host Charity Event, Proceeds Benefit Local Nonprofits
Professional tattoo artists in New York City are hosting a charity event, with all proceeds from flash tattoo purchases directed to local nonprofits, according to a statement from the New York Tattoo Collective. The event, titled “Ink for Impact,” features over 50 artists donating their time and expertise to raise funds for the New York Urban League and the Harlem Children’s Zone.
Event Details and Participating Artists
The “Ink for Impact” event, held at the Brooklyn Artisan Center from September 15–17, includes a lineup of renowned tattoo artists such as Tattler Lee and Maya Voss, both of whom have previously been featured in *Black Enterprise* for their community-driven work. Attendees can commission flash tattoos at discounted rates, with 100% of proceeds going to the two nonprofits. “This is about using our craft to create tangible change,” said Lee, who has volunteered at similar events for the past decade.

According to the New York Tattoo Collective, the event has already raised over $120,000 in donations through pre-sales, with additional funds expected from on-site purchases. The organization, which represents over 300 artists statewide, emphasized that the initiative aligns with its mission to “promote ethical practices and community engagement within the tattoo industry.”
Charity Focus and Impact
The New York Urban League, one of the primary beneficiaries, reported in its 2023 annual review that it provided job training to 4,200 individuals across the city. The Harlem Children’s Zone, another recipient, focuses on educational programs for children in underserved neighborhoods. A spokesperson for the Harlem Children’s Zone stated, “These funds will directly support after-school tutoring and mentorship programs, which have shown a 25% improvement in academic performance among participants.”
The event also includes a silent auction featuring artwork by local artists, with proceeds split equally between the two charities. Organizers noted that the auction has already attracted bids exceeding $30,000, with final results expected by late September.
Community Response and Future Plans
Local residents have praised the event for its dual focus on art and philanthropy. “It’s inspiring to see creatives use their talents for good,” said Maria Gonzalez, a Brooklyn resident who purchased a flash tattoo at the event. “I feel like I’m contributing to something bigger.” The New York Tattoo Collective plans to host similar events quarterly, with a focus on expanding partnerships with additional nonprofits in 2024.
For those unable to attend, the organization has launched an online donation portal, which has already received over $50,000 in contributions. “We want to ensure everyone can participate, regardless of location,” said a collective representative.
