Cleafy Secures €12 Million to Bolster Banking Cybersecurity
Milan-based cybersecurity firm Cleafy has secured €12 million in a Series B funding round, bringing its total funding to €22 million. The investment, co-led by United Ventures and eCAPITAL, will fuel the development of its predictive cybersecurity capabilities and expansion across Europe and Latin America.
Combating Evolving Financial Threats
Founded in 2014, Cleafy specializes in protecting financial institutions from increasingly sophisticated cyberattacks and fraud. The company’s platform distinguishes itself by focusing on identifying and stopping attacks before financial damage occurs, a departure from traditional security tools that often react after a breach.
Cleafy’s technology analyzes signals across web, mobile, backend and network environments to identify malicious infrastructure, attacker intent, and evolving cyberattack patterns in real time. By reconstructing how attacks originate and spread across digital systems, the platform aims to support banks prevent fraud rather than react to it after the fact. This approach is particularly relevant as regulatory frameworks like the Digital Operational Resilience Act (DORA) and NIS2 cybersecurity requirements raise standards for digital resilience across Europe’s financial sector.
Expanding Reach and Capabilities
Currently, Cleafy serves over 150 financial institutions across Europe and Latin America, protecting more than 250 million end users. Key clients include ING, BCC Iccrea Group, Illimity Bank, and BPS (Suisse).
The newly acquired capital will be allocated to three key areas:
- Accelerating Predictive Capabilities: Enhancing the platform’s ability to anticipate and prevent attacks.
- Scaling Threat Analysis: Expanding global threat intelligence gathering and analysis.
- Driving Expansion: Growing its presence in key banking markets across Europe and Latin America.
Cleafy has too recently launched “Cleafy for Workforce,” extending its technology to detect insider threats and compromised corporate accounts.
Industry Validation and Future Outlook
“While fraudsters weaponize AI to scale attacks at machine speed, European banks are fighting back with outdated, reactive tools. We built Cleafy to change this equation fundamentally, reconstructing how attacks form and stopping them weeks before they can cause damage. Our zero customer churn over more than a decade proves this approach works,” said Matteo Bogana, CEO & Co-Founder of Cleafy.
Fabio Pirovano, Partner at United Ventures, stated, “Cleafy represents the kind of European technology leadership we require in critical infrastructure protection. As fraud becomes more sophisticated, their predictive, intelligence-driven approach to anticipating and disrupting attacks before they materialize is a strategic imperative. Their solid growth and exceptional customer retention validate they’ve built something truly differentiated. We are proud to continue supporting the company as it advances into its next chapter of growth.”
Lucas Merle, Partner at eCAPITAL, added, “Cleafy stands out through clear technical differentiation: turning cross-channel telemetry and threat intelligence into a coherent picture of attacker intent and infrastructure. Just as important, the solution is built for real-world deployment in complex banking environments. We’re excited to support Cleafy in scaling this capability into a foundational layer for protecting financial critical infrastructure.”
With a team of over 90 employees across offices in Milan, London, Barcelona, and Bogotá, and a technology base supported by more than 85 international patents, Cleafy is positioned to play a significant role in the evolving landscape of banking cybersecurity.
