Washington Commanders Trade for Pro Bowl Cornerback Marshon Lattimore

The Washington Commanders have acquired veteran cornerback Marshon Lattimore from the New Orleans Saints in a move that significantly bolsters their secondary. The trade, pending a physical, sees Washington send a third-, fourth-, and sixth-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft to New Orleans in exchange for Lattimore and a 2025 fifth-round pick.

Lattimore’s Impressive Career Track Record

Drafted 11th overall by the Saints in the 2017 NFL Draft, Lattimore has consistently been one of the top cornerbacks in the league. Over his eight-year career, he has recorded 405 tackles, 15 interceptions, 88 pass breakups, and five forced fumbles, returning two interceptions for touchdowns. His ability to disrupt opposing offenses has earned him four Pro Bowl selections, including three consecutive nods from 2019-2021. Notably, he was named Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2017 after his impressive debut season, recording five interceptions, 18 pass breakups, and 53 tackles.

A Forceful Presence in the Saints’ Defense

From 2019 to 2021, Lattimore was a dominant force in the Saints’ defense. During that period, he recorded six interceptions, 44 pass breakups, and 187 tackles. The Saints consistently ranked within the top 15 in passing yards allowed, holding quarterbacks to the fourth-lowest passer rating in both 2020 and 2021.

Looking Ahead

Lattimore has played in seven games this season, recording 30 tackles and two pass breakups. The addition of a player of his caliber to the Commanders’ defense is sure to be a game-changer. His experience, talent, and leadership will be invaluable assets as the team looks to compete in the crowded NFC East.
