San Diego Toreros Defeat Creighton Bluejays in High-Scoring Matchup
San Diego defeated Creighton 15-5 on Saturday, February 21, at the Tony Gwynn Legacy Tournament, improving their season record to 5-1 while Creighton fell to 2-3. The Toreros’ offense was led by a strong performance from Jayden Lobliner, who hit a two-run home run in the first inning.
Early Toreros Lead
San Diego quickly established a lead, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning on a home run by Jayden Lobliner. They extended their advantage in the second inning with five more runs, capitalizing on four hits, two hit batters, and a walk. A run in the fourth inning further increased their lead to 8-0.
Creighton Attempts a Comeback
Creighton began to rally in the fifth inning, scoring five runs on three hits. Connor Capece started the inning with a double, followed by a walk from Chris Baillargeon. Nick Venteicher then singled to center field, driving in two runs. An RBI fielder’s choice by Isaac Wachsmann and a two-run double by Ben North narrowed the gap to 8-5.
Toreros Respond and Secure Victory
San Diego responded with three runs in the fifth and four more in the sixth, solidifying their 15-5 victory.

Creighton’s Brian Gould took the loss, allowing seven runs in 1.1 innings pitched. San Diego’s Kyle Bade earned the win, allowing five runs (three earned) in five innings of work.
