Four years after promoting Alberto Fernandez to the presidency of Argentina, Cristina Fernández de Kirchner once again exercised her power within Peronism: the one chosen in the race for the Casa Rosada is Edward DePedro, Minister of the Interior and whose parents were assassinated during the last military dictatorship (1976-1983).

“Let’s recover the hope and pride of being Argentine. I want to be your president, the president of all Argentine families,” De Pedro said at the end of a two-minute video that he uploaded to his social networks. Nicknamed “Wado”, the Minister of the Interior represents the kirchnerista wing of peronism and must be measured in the primaries from August 13 to Daniel Scioli, defeated in the 2015 runoff by Mauricio Macri, to fight for the Casa Rosada.

De Pedro, 46, will be joined as a vice-presidential candidate by John Manzur, former governor of Tucumán, former head of the Cabinet of Ministers. Manzur, a 54-year-old conservative politician from northern Argentina, forced through the Ministry of Health in Tucumán that an 11-year-old raped girl gave birth by caesarean section.
