Czech viewers have a strong affinity for crime series. In recent years, nearly every television channel has introduced at least one new crime show annually. Some channels nurture original projects, while others leverage the popularity of established stars. Nova TV opted for the latter strategy, responding to viewer requests by preparing another series of this beloved crime drama, delivering fresh stories adn characters as the end of August.
The first installment of this successful series, currently starring Jiří Dvořák and Marta Dancingerová,was filmed in 2008. It debuted as a key component of the autumn television lineup. While such programs are commonplace today, the “Angel Criminal” was a relatively new genre at the time, aiming to emulate the style of foreign series like CSI or Law & Order.
Initially, the police officers from the fictional Prague station Angel operated under the leadership of Major Tomeček, portrayed by Martin Stropnický. Characters who have remained with the series for over a decade after the first episode aired include Tomas Benkovsky and Oliver Hajna, played by David Švehlík and Mark Taclík,respectively.
