Daisy Edgar-Jones Reveals Years-Long Battle with Endometriosis
Actress Daisy Edgar-Jones, 27, has publicly shared her experience with endometriosis, a chronic and often painful condition, revealing she received a diagnosis at age 24. The “Normal People” star discussed her journey whereas guiding viewers through her skincare routine in a recent YouTube video with Vogue.
Years of Unexplained Symptoms
Edgar-Jones recounted struggling with severe acne during her teenage years and experiencing painful periods for a long time before understanding the underlying cause. “I have endometriosis, so my hormones are kind of all over the place. I had extremely bad acne for most of my teenage years,” she explained in the video. “When I had terrible acne, it was all I could see when I looked in the mirror. For so long, I had such painful periods and really volatile skin.”
She expressed relief at finally receiving a diagnosis, stating, “I was diagnosed when I was, I think I was 24. I was definitely relieved to find out why I was going through it.”
Understanding Endometriosis
Endometriosis occurs when tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside the womb, affecting an estimated two million women in the UK Endometriosis UK. This misplaced tissue responds to hormonal changes, causing inflammation, scar tissue, and a range of symptoms, including debilitating period pain, infertility, and chronic pelvic pain.
Managing Symptoms and Finding Relief
Edgar-Jones has found a skincare routine that works for her and has also noticed improvements through dietary adjustments. “I’ve found over the years skincare that really works for me,” she shared. “But I also find drinking lots of water and when I eat well – especially when I attempt and not eat as much dairy – that really helps.”
A Message of Encouragement
The actress offered encouragement to others struggling with acne, emphasizing that inner confidence is more significant than outward appearance. “When I had terrible acne, it was all I could see when I looked in the mirror. But actually, when I glance back at photos and videos, it’s funny that so much of the beauty of you is inside, and the confidence that you wear can really help,” she said. “So I would say to anyone with acne – I know it’s all you can see, but it’s not what everyone else can see.”
Personal Life
Edgar-Jones recently made a public appearance with her photographer boyfriend, Ben Seed, at a Krug &. Max Richter event in London. The couple generally keeps their relationship private. Daily Mail
What is Endometriosis?
Endometriosis is a condition where tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside of it. Each month, this tissue acts like the uterine lining – building up and breaking down – but unlike the uterine lining, it has no way to exit the body. This can lead to pain, heavy periods, fatigue, and potential fertility issues, as well as problems with the bowel and bladder. Endometriosis UK
The cause of endometriosis is unknown, but potential factors include genetics, immune system issues, or exposure to certain chemicals. Treatment focuses on managing pain and improving quality of life, often through surgery or hormone therapy.
