Severe Storms Threaten North Texas with Hail, Wind and Possible Tornadoes
North Texas is bracing for severe thunderstorms Tuesday night, bringing the potential for damaging winds, large hail, and isolated tornadoes. A tornado watch is in effect for several counties west of Fort Worth, including Parker, Hood, and Wise.
Storm Timeline and Threats
Scattered severe storms may begin developing late Tuesday afternoon across eastern and southeastern counties before expanding westward and intensifying across the broader North Texas region through the evening and overnight hours. The strongest activity is expected between 9 p.m. And 2 a.m.
The primary threats include:
- Damaging Winds: Winds could exceed 70 mph, particularly from Graham and Cisco through Dallas–Fort Worth and south toward Waco and Killeen.
- Large Hail: Hail up to 2.75 inches in diameter is possible with earlier storms near Canton and Palestine between 5 p.m. And 8 p.m.
- Tornadoes: Brief, spin-up tornadoes cannot be ruled out within the storm line overnight.
Current Conditions and Warnings
As of Tuesday evening, parts of North Texas are experiencing strong to severe thunderstorms. Severe thunderstorm and tornado warnings were issued earlier in the night but have since expired. Heavy rain and winds have been reported in Tarrant County, with no hail observed near Texas Motor Speedway as of 9:15 p.m.
Fire Weather Concerns
Despite the approaching storms, an elevated fire threat remains in place for areas near and west of Interstate 35. Wind gusts near 25-30 mph and humidity around 15-20% create conditions favorable for wildfires. Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning and refrain from parking vehicles over tall grass.
Allergy Alert
Allergy sufferers should seize precautions as tree pollen levels are extremely high across the region. Dust and dander levels are also high, while mold counts are moderate. Experts recommend keeping windows closed and changing clothes after spending time outdoors.
Looking Ahead
Storms are expected to gradually weaken toward early Wednesday morning. A significant warming trend is forecast for later this week, with highs in the 80s expected for the weekend.
