The New York Giants’ offensive struggles continued in Week Seven, culminating in a disheartening 28-3 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. Despite entering the season with high hopes, the Giants offense failed to generate any significant momentum, managing a mere 119 yards throughout the entire game.
A Dismal Offensive Performance
A lone field goal just before halftime accounted for the Giants’ only points, while the Eagles dominated possession and marched down the field at will. The Giants offensive line faltered, allowing eight sacks, and quarterback Daniel Jones struggled to find rhythm, ultimately being pulled from the game in favor of Drew Lock in the fourth quarter.
Jones Benching Raises Questions
Head coach Brian Daboll’s decision to bench Jones sparked controversy, leaving Jones visibly frustrated.
“I was frustrated,” Jones said, via a transcript from the team. “I want to be out there, I want to be playing with my teammates and trying to score points. Yeah, I was frustrated and yeah, didn’t like it obviously.”
While Daboll maintained that the move was simply a search for a spark, Jones’ frustration is understandable.
Daboll’s decision also raises questions about Jones’ future as the starting quarterback.
The Giants’ offense has shown flashes of brilliance, but overall, the unit has struggled mightily. Jones, entering his sixth season, hasn’t consistently demonstrated the ability to elevate the offense.
Financial Factors Compound the Issue
Adding further complexity, the Giants are on the hook for $23 million in guaranteed money if Jones fails a physical this offseason.
