David Quintana Appointed as Acting New Mexico Transportation Secretary

Santa Fe, NM – Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham has appointed David D. Quintana as Acting Secretary of the New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT), effective immediately. The announcement was made on March 4, 2026, by the Governor’s office according to a press release.

Extensive Experience at NMDOT

Quintana brings over two decades of experience within the NMDOT to his new role. He has steadily progressed through the department, beginning as an Engineer in Training. Most recently, he served as the Programs and Infrastructure Division Director and Chief Engineer, overseeing more than 220 employees and managing an annual budget exceeding $500 million as reported by the Los Alamos Daily Post.

Leadership and Responsibilities

Governor Lujan Grisham expressed confidence in Quintana’s ability to lead the department, stating, “David Quintana has spent his career delivering transportation projects that connect our communities and move New Mexico forward. Quintana’s experience includes directing the statewide design and construction program, managing six district offices, and overseeing critical aspects of transportation development, including project development, bridge design, environmental review, right-of-way acquisition, and the Statewide Transportation Improvement Plan. Prior to his work at NMDOT, he held a position as Roadway and Drainage Section Manager for the City of Santa Fe.
