The city of Derry, Northern Ireland is reeling from the tragic murder of 28-year-old Amy Doherty, a local mother of two. The incident has sparked an outpouring of grief and shock within the community, with a murder investigation currently underway.

On Saturday, March 22, 2026, police responded to a call at a property in the Summer Meadows Mews area of Derry at approximately 10:20 am. Amy Doherty was discovered with critical injuries and transported to the hospital, where she later died. A 30-year-old man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of murder.

The arrested man was later rescued from the River Foyle after falling from Foyle Bridge, which is over 100ft high. He was taken to the hospital and remains in police custody.

Community Reaction and Tributes

The death of Amy Doherty has been met with widespread shock and sadness. Mayor of Derry City, Ruairí McHugh, expressed his deep sorrow, stating that no words could ease the pain of the loss and offering the community’s support to the family.
