Marriage dissolutions fell by 6.7% in 2022 compared to the previous year, when there was a significant increase in breakups after the coronavirus pandemic, and divorces (down 6.4%) represent 96.2% of the total. In total, 8 out of 10 were by mutual agreement and 13% before a notary.
So it follows from the Statistics of Annulments, Separations and Divorces of 2022 that this Thursday publishes the Statistics National Institute (INE) and which indicates that during the past year there were 84,551 cases of annulment, separation and divorce, which meant a decrease of 6.7% compared to the previous year and a rate of 1.8 per 1,000 inhabitants.
This decrease comes after in 2021 marital dissolutions increased by 13.2% after the confinement caused by the pandemic and after three consecutive years of decline.
This 2022, however, the number of divorces has decreased by 6.4% compared to the previous year, that of separations by 12.6% and that of annulments by 31.6%. Thus, there were 81,302 divorces (96.2% of the total), 3,210 separations (3.8%) and 39 annulments (0.1%).
There were 1,749 same-sex divorces (2.2% of the total). Of these, 927 were men and 822 women. In addition, there were 78 separations (2.4% of the total).
