“This is incredible. L.A. really showed out today,” Freeman said. “It’s hard to believe. It hasn’t sunk in yet. … These fans are going crazy, and this is fun to be a part of.”
Even players who joined the Dodgers mid-season, like Tommy Edman, were struck by the depth of Dodgers fandom. “I feel like I didn’t fully comprehend it until today,” Edman shared. “Just seeing everybody out here, it’s been amazing. A really, really special feeling.”
A Tribute to Fernando Valenzuela
Adding an emotional layer to the celebration, the parade coincided with the birthday of Dodgers legend Fernando Valenzuela, who passed away just weeks prior. Fans spontaneously broke into renditions of “Happy Birthday” as the parade began, honoring Valenzuela’s legacy.
“I had no idea it was gonna be like this,” said pitcher Tyler Glasnow, reflecting on the magnitude of the celebration. “I didn’t even know this many people existed. This is unbelievable. It seems like the entire city of L.A. came out today. It’s phenomenal.”
