After two failed attempts, the concept of having a downtown movie theater appears to be no longer viable. This month, Padeland announced they are converting the LOOK Dine-In cinema into their first U.S.location for padel, a rapidly growing racquet sport.

Padeland will retain the brewery that was already part of the cinema complex.

A History of Failed Attempts

Flix Brewhouse was the first to attempt a dine-in cinema experience at this location, opening in December 2019. However, it closed in March 2020, shortly after the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. The closure was initially attributed to the pandemic’s impact on the entertainment industry, but the location struggled to regain momentum even as restrictions eased.

LOOK Cinemas than took over the space, reopening in November 2021 with a similar dine-in concept. LOOK Cinemas also faced challenges, ultimately closing its doors in January 2024. Factors contributing to its failure included competition from streaming services and changing consumer habits.
