Irish Man Charged with Fuel Theft and Failing to Appear in Court
A 24-year-old man has been charged with multiple offenses, including theft of fuel from service stations in County Roscommon and failing to appear in court. Victor Godfrey, with addresses at Marrowbone Lane, Dublin, and Slievebloom Park, Walkinstown, D12, appeared before Judge Bernadette Owens at Athlone District Court on Wednesday, February 25, 2026.
Details of the Charges
Godfrey faces four charges in total. Two relate to alleged fuel theft incidents that occurred in January 2025. The first incident took place on January 10th, 2025, at Inver Service Centre, Dublin Road, Rochfortbridge, where he allegedly drove off without paying for €40.93 worth of diesel. Two weeks later, on January 24th, 2025, he is alleged to have committed a similar offense at Kennedy’s Fuel Station, Monksland, Athlone, County Roscommon, driving off without paying for €34.39 worth of petrol.
Failure to Appear in Court
The remaining two charges concern Godfrey’s failure to appear in court on July 23rd, 2025, and February 6th, 2026. These failures occurred despite entering into bail bonds with the condition that he attend court hearings.
Court Proceedings and Next Steps
During the court appearance, the defense team requested disclosure of CCTV footage related to the alleged fuel thefts. Directions from the court were not yet available. Godfrey was remanded on continuing bail and is scheduled to reappear in court on April 8th, 2026.
