Six Dublin Food Businesses Shut Down Due to Serious Health Violations
Dublin, Ireland – Six food businesses across Dublin have been issued closure orders by the Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) due to serious hygiene violations posing potential risks to public health. These closures highlight the importance of maintaining stringent food safety standards, especially during busy periods.
Rodent Infestation Found in Multiple Locations
The Bankers Bar, located on Trinity Street in Dublin 2, was ordered to close its basement kitchen after inspectors discovered rodent droppings in multiple areas, including a passageway next to the kitchen and near an ice machine. Evidence of gnawed wallpaper and a gnawed bin bag were also noted. Similarly, Lotus Asian Food Takeaway in Stillorgan was shut down entirely due to rodent droppings found in seven locations, including on a staff apron, under a wash basin, and beneath food shelving units.
Cockroach Infestation and Lack of Cleaning
Indian Spices on Parnell Street was found to have a severe cockroach infestation, with cockroaches present in all stages of their lifecycle. Live and dead cockroaches were discovered in areas where drinks are served and crockery is stored. Shapla Indian Spice in Carlow was also issued a closure order due to insufficient cleaning, including a dirty and grease-encrusted chair in the food preparation area.
Other Violations Lead to Closure Orders
Grill Kebab in Broadford, Limerick, faced closure due to evidence of someone living in the rear kitchen, with a mattress, bedding, and personal belongings found in a storage room. FLC in Balbriggan received a closure order prohibiting the sale and supply of milkshakes and desserts because raw meat preparation occurred in an unclean and cramped area near the dessert preparation zone.
FSAI Urges Businesses to Prioritize Food Safety
Pamela Byrne, Chief Executive of the FSAI, emphasized the importance of maintaining rigorous food safety procedures, especially during busy periods. She stressed that consumers have the right to safe food and urged businesses to prioritize training and establish a strong food safety culture.
“Food businesses must ensure there is a strong food safety culture in place, including adequate training for all staff. This simply must be a top priority for food businesses,” Byrne stated.
